Welcome to The Language Lane

Communication takes many forms, and we’re just beginning to find our way. Our son, Tucker, was born hearing, but at two months old, he contracted bacterial meningitis. The illness changed our world overnight, leaving him profoundly Deaf. Now, we’re stepping into the unknown, learning about cochlear implants, exploring bilingualism in spoken English and Auslan, and figuring out what connection looks like for our family.

We’re not experts, just new parents navigating a journey we never expected. This is our way of sharing what we learn, healing our wounds, and maybe, just maybe, being a voice for other families whose parenting journey took a complete 180.

We know we won’t always get it right. We might make mistakes, use the wrong words, or unknowingly offend but that’s never our intention. This is our space to learn, grow, and share as we figure it all out.

We don’t have all the answers, but we’re here to share the triumphs, the challenges, and everything in between. Whether you’re a parent, educator, or just curious about language and accessibility, we’d love for you to walk this road with us.

Because at The Language Lane, communication is always evolving.

With love and learning,

Tyler and Corrie
